Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince by Frozenbyte Oy (PC & Consoles, 2019)
I worked as a Game Designer, with main responsibility being creating new levels and designing challenging puzzle and combat scenarios. I took ownership of two levels (A Masquerade Night and Firwood Water). I also provided technical support to numerous other levels, especially in optimizing physics puzzles for multiplayer synchronization.
A Masquerade Night. I am the proudest of this scene. I designed the multilayer environment, making use of background depth to show more of the city. The artists had the great idea of adding a short background cutscene featuring guest characters from the Nine Parchments game. The boats bobbing in the water under your weight are also a nice touch!
My idea was to use the dark space in this scene to highlight the narrative of Zoya questioning her thieving ways.
Dark space is also used to accentuate indoor areas. Clear environmental silouettes makes it easier to navigate indoor areas.
Firwood Water. This level was inspired heavily by Finnish nature.
It was challenging to create meaningful gameplay with the seal character, but in the end it was fitting to feature it considering the level inspiration.
